‘Sunny Side Up’ is the first of three albums that guitarist Wilbert Longmire recorded for Bob James’ Tappan Zee imprint. It includes the classic Jazz Funk cut ‘Black Is The Color’, plus a nice version of ‘Lovely Day’. Check also the mid-tempo instrumental ‘Starflight’ and the vocal ballad ‘Love Why Don’t You Find Us’.

I recall buying this on LP when it first got released. At that time, George Benson was at the top of his game but i loved this album and Wilberts playing just as much as any that GB had done.
Everytime i play the CD version it reminds me of glorious summers in the late 1970s and Robbie Vincent /Greg Edwards plugging this disc on their shows.
The stand out track for me is “‘Good Morning”‘ which starts with a lark call and gorgeous string arrangements.
