The first volume of this lauded series was released in 2008 and remains a landmark album in African/World music circles. Lokonon Andre’s poly rhythmic Lokonon André & Les Volcans’ ‘Mi Kple Dogbekpo’ is a highlight, the calypso inspired ‘Mi Ma Kpe Dji’ from Picoby Band D’Abomey, Gabo Brown & Orchestre Poly-Rythmo’s horn lead ‘It’s A Vanity’ also cooks hard. Napo De Mi Amor Et Ses Black Devils’ organ fuelled mid-tempo ‘Leki Santchi’ is a killer slab of wiry funk, Roger Damawuzan does his best JB impression on the deep funker ‘Wait For Me’ while Le Super Borgou De Parakou’s rapid fire ‘Congolaise Benin Ye’ is another pounding, heavy funker. Vincent Ahehehinnou delivers a percussion lead slab of afro beat in the form of ‘Ou C’est Lui Ou C’est Moi’ while Les Volcans De La Capital are back to deliver the laid back, Cuban influenced ‘Oya Ka Jojo’.
