‘Age Of Blame’ from Massachusetts’ Jen Kearney and band is a superb, funky 8 track set that immediately brings to mind the likes of Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway – you could almost describe her as a female Stevie in the tone of her strong vocals. The low slung, climatic ‘Waiting For it’ kicks off the album in full on fashion while the zippy horns of ‘Too Far’ bring a Tower Of Power vibe. ‘Overwhelming’ bumps along with a late 70’s funk-fusion groove, ‘What If’ has a nod to the Headhunters while the breezy Latin of ‘Better’ shows another dimension to their sound. The expansive down-tempo ‘Sabotage In Sanctuary’ is a ponderous, bluesy ballad that allows the various band members to solo to great effect. Confident, strong vocals, brilliant, tight band – great stuff.
