James Brown’s backing band of the early seventies may not have been the best musicians he ever worked with, but schooled by trombonist Fred Wesley they were certainly the tightest. This 30 track collection highlights not only the hits but also some of the more obscure cuts. Cuts like ‘Doing It To Death’, Gimme Some More’, ‘and Hot Pants Road ’and ‘Givin Up Food For Funk’ are James Brown produced classics. ‘Soul Power 74’ and ‘Cross The Tracks’ recorded under the guise of Maceo And The Macks stand with any of the JBs recordings under that name. Truth these grooves are timeless and this is a comprehensive deserving of the term anthology.
