Tenor saxophonist Richard Elliot’s latest album ‘Authentic Life’ will only consolidate his reputation as a Smooth Jazz legend. Produced by Chris ‘Dog’ Davis’ for Shanachie Records, it delivers ten quality tracks, primarily in the subtly ‘funky’ style that Elliot has epitomized his previous albums. The album starts with the archetypal Elliot track ‘Snapshot’ replete with full horns and undulating riffs. There is a chilled vibe to ‘Walk With Me’, whilst the grooves flow on ‘Authentic Life’, ‘Right On Time’ and ‘Move Ahead’. The infectious ‘Elegant People’ and the slowish lilting ‘Moon Gazer’ enrich what is a fine instrumental Smooth Jazz set. The upbeat ‘Boogie’ concludes what is an excellent set. guests include Rick Braun, Dave Koz on baritone sax, Jeff Lorber and Chris Davis.
