Recorded in their South London studio with the help of producer, Kraznet Montpelier, ‘Back From The Brink’ is The Soul Immigrants’ first album in five years and possibly the best in a career that stretches back more than 20 years. The album includes contributions from Ria Currie, and Trojan legend Freddie Notes and is steeped in classic old school modern funk, soul and jazzy grooves. The infectiously upbeat summery soul of ‘Sweet Rest’ is a delight, the big, bluesy vibe of ‘Sooner Or Later’ finds them in swampy funk mode while the gritty version of ‘I’m A Good Woman’ finds Ms Currie in superb voice. The expansive southern soul of ‘The Plains Of Maker Heights’ is a laid back, dusty soul groover, contrast this with the flowing funky soul of ‘Back From The Brink’ and the Incognito feel of ‘Up Close And Personal’. Vinyl only album that may have passed under the radar a little.
