Ed Motta
Behind The Tea Chronicles
£24.99
Format: LP
Ed Motta is a very talented singer songwriter and multi instrumentalist who is a musical superstar in his native Brasil. On his new sophomore album ‘Behind The Tea Chronicles’ he is joined by many good Brazilian musicians plus a horn section from Detroit and the Film harmonic Orchestra from the Czech Republic and backing vocals recorded in L.A. Ed Motta really has his own style a mixture of Soul, Funk, Jazz, AOR and Brazilian music unlike any contemporary artist that I can think of, but shows Steely Dan influences.’Newsroom Costumers’ is a good opener string laden groove riden track that gets us familiar with Ed Motta’s songwriting style. ‘Slumberland’ is a marvellous multi paced track that has Paulette McWillams, Phillip Ingram and Will Wheaton on soulful backing vocals, who also sing on many other tracks. ‘Safely Far’ is a strutting funky soul groove. ‘Quartermass Has Told Us’ and ‘Shot In The Dark’ which features a nice flute solo from Marcelo Martins are quirky groove tracks that really illustrate Ed’s uniqueness. ‘Deluxe Refuge’ has an Azymuth style funky Jazz groove and a nice Rhodes solo from M.D. Michel Limma who plays multiple keyboards and organ throughout the album. Really nice album that will appeal to his many fans and most likely introduce him to many more.
