obby is one of the all time great soul singers and this superb compilation of arguable his most productive period from 1968-75 recorded in Muscle Shoals defines his soul and creativity. Tracks like the uptempo ‘Across 110th street’ , ‘I Can Understand It’, ‘Looking For A Love’ and Check It Out’ are classics. Womack excels on the mid tempo and ballads and ‘Woman’s Got To Have it’, ‘That’s The Way I Feel About Cha’, ‘You’re Welcome Stop On By’, ‘im In Love’, ‘Harry Hippie’, ‘Im Through Trying To Prove My Love For You’ , Daylight’ and the fantastic ‘Nobody Wants You When You’re Down And Out’ are testimony to that. Also check it it when he gets funky on ‘Communication’ .ExcellentÂ
