Oliver Nelson was a great big band arranger and saxophonist. His masterpiece ‘Blues and the Abstract truth’ was recorded in 1961 with an all star group including Freddie Hubbard, Eric Dolphy, Bill Evans Paul Chambers and Roy Haynes. ‘Stolen Moments’ is an absolute timeless classic jazz blues track, ‘Cascades’ h ‘Hoe Down’and ‘Cascades’ in contrast are more upbeat and feature some good solos notably from Hubbard. It is not suprising that this is rated as one of the all time great jazz albums.
