Caldera was a fine Latin influenced Jazz Fusion band who recorded 4 albums for Capitol Records in the late 70s. This CD combines the first two. ‘Caldera’ is a super fine set with ‘Guanacaste’ is fiery funky number, whilst ‘Exaltation’ lives up to its title and sound like Airto/ early Return To Forever. ‘El Juguete’ is fast paced Latin number. This first album features Brazilian trombonist Raul De Souza. The title cut of ‘Sky islands’ features a wordless vocal from Dianne Reeves, who also stars on the beautiful ‘Ancient Source’. The breezy ‘Pegasus’ and the lovely ‘Triste’ are fine tracks too. A highly recommended 2 on 1.
