Florian Pellissier Quintet are a French combo that play some really interesting Jazz. ‘Cap DE Bonne Esperance’ is a tremendous Modal track steeped in Spirituality. There is a great version of Harold McNair ‘The Hipster’ which gives the Modal Jazz classic a new twist. ‘Canto Pa’ is a lovely track that really swings along. ‘Les Masques Africains’ has a really kicking rhythm topped with great horns, another beautifully spiritual track. Leron Thomas sings on the standard ‘What a Difference a day makes’. The musicianship is of a very high standard throughout. Yet another great Jazz album for 2016
