This intriguing 2 CDs includes two LPs recorded by Jerome Richardson for the Prestige label’s subsidiary New Jazz (‘Midnight Oil’ and ‘Roaming With..’) and the killer album ‘Going To The Movies’, which features covers of movie themes. The CD also includes an obscure 10” ‘Meeting In Studio’ recorded in Belgrade co-led by French horn player Julius Watkiss and Bosko Petrovic whilst on tour with Quincy Jones in 1960. Standout is Duke Jordan’s ‘No Problem’ from ‘Going To The Movies’, with Richardson’s amazing baritone sax solo. ‘Midnight Oil’ sees him deliver an incredible flute performance on ‘Caravan’. ‘Roaming..’ includes the double time groove ‘Up At Teddys Hill’. This set represents over 50% of this under-rated player’s output. Worth it for ‘No Problem’ alone.
