Vibes player Warren Wolf has made a superb album ‘Convergence’ accompanied by fine musicians Christian McBride, Brad Mehldau, John Scofield and Jeff Tain Watts. ‘Soul Sister’ is a lovely accessible free flowing opening track that sets the tone. ‘Cell Phone’ is a wonderful explosion of sound featuring a bustling rhythm topped by dazzlingly fast Vibes playing from Wolf followed by a great Piano solo from Mehldau. Warren pays tribute to one of his influences by covering Bobby Hutcherson’s beautiful ‘Montara’. ‘Four Stars from Heaven’ and ‘A Prayer for the Christian Man’ are both long Spiritual epics. This is uplifting music that you can really feel and get into, another great Jazz album for 2016.
