Gemco records’ studio house band Diamond Street Players cook up a storm across this superb 10-track funk excursion. The Meters-esq ‘Split The Difference’ is a muscular funk workout that is laced with a burning organ solo, the socio-political ‘How Many Lies’ features Adryon De Leon on vocals while ‘Healey 67’ is a groovy, slab of 60s exotica in ode to the sports car of the same name. ‘Murky Retrograde’ is another top quality punchy funker that totally cooks and builds to a crescendo, ‘Organ Workout’ has a galloping beat, incisive horns and a screaming B-3 while ‘Suzy’s Boogaloo’ again rides that New Orleans organ-funk groove. The acclaimed ‘Million Miles’ written and featuring the voice of Amanda Joy is a lovely mid tempo funky soul cut while the band return to the tough funk instrumentals on ‘(Startin’ With A’) Clean Slate’ and Grease Gun’. Brilliant album for funk fans.
