Amazing album recorded by Lou Adler for the Ode label in 1969 featuring a choir of 20 Sisters and 8 Brothers from L.A. singing Dylan’s songs in a Gospel style. Many well known Soul singers are amongst the vocalists including Merry Clayton, Edna Wright, Gloria Jones, Shirley Allen, Patrice Holloway and Clydie King. The album was arranged and conducted by Gene Page utilising a Piano or Organ led small band. Merry powerful voice takes the lead on ‘The Times Are A Changing’ and the inspirational ‘The Mighty Quinn’ transforming them into Spiritual masterpieces. Gloria Jones distinctive deep voice handles an uplifting version of ‘I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight’. Edna Wright leads on the beautiful version of ‘Lay Lady Lay’. The terrific version of ‘All Along the Watchtower’ is another highlight. A truly magnificent Gospel/Soul album.
