Pianist Keiko Matsui demonstrates her virtuosity on ‘Echo’. Aided by a star-studded cast including Marcus Miller, Kyle Eastwood and Kirk Whalum, her playing is exquisite across 10 vibrant compositions. The riff laden (with horns) ‘Unshakable’ is a fine groovy opener. The jaunty ‘Moon Over Gotham, the intriguing ‘Spirit Dance’ and the jazzier ‘Marlin Club Blues’ add different dimensions. There some still more mellow moments such as ‘Echo’ and ‘Esprit’. Fine set.
