Taking its title from the Amsterdam studio where their fifteenth album was recorded, New Cool Collective’s ‘Electric Monkey Sessions’ set sees the eight-piece shoe-horning as many influences as possible into this fresh new 10 track album. Senegalese grooves clash with Italian cinema soundtrack scores, the opener ‘Rantanplan’ jarring well against the suspense filled ‘Cinecitta’, the full on Afro-Latin groove of ‘Rumbon’ mixing nicely with the Hi-life of ‘Sa Jikko Jii’ featuring local musicians the band met on their travels.
