Evolutionary Minded furthering the legacy of Gil Scott Heron represents some of his powerful songs along with new material, in a contemporary soul/hip-hop vien. This may well garner future generations to appreciate Gil’s musical genius. Gregory Porter sings a delightful version of ‘Song of the wind’ and the tripped out ‘Losing our minds’. Martin Luther sings, Bobby Searle and Abiodun Oyewole (on ‘Tradition’) provide spoken word, M1, Chuck D, and Dead Prez rap. ‘Headhunters’ ft Mike Clark, Paul Jackson, Bill Summers and Blackbyrd McKnight is a too short funky instrumental. Not everything on this interesting tribute album may appeal to Soul fans, but its worth checking out.
