Superb Italian Jazz album from the ever reliable Nicola Conte, featuring some great musicians and many ‘Free Souls’ on vocals. Jose James adds his so Soulful tones to ‘Goddess Of The Sea’ a lovely uplifting upper tempo track. Marvin Parks sings on the beautiful ‘Shades Of Joy’ and the lilting ‘If I Should Lose You’. Rising star Bridgette Amofah sweet voice graces the funkier ‘Free Souls’ and good covers of ‘Ode to Billy Joe’ and the excellent Jazz Shifter ‘Baltimore Oriole’. Dutch Soul singer Tasha’s World turns in an unexpected Jazz performance on the heavier Jazz groover ‘Uhuru’. Heidi Vogel shows her love of Brazilian jazz on a good version of ‘Sandalia Dela’. The musicianship is of the highest standard throughout. Schema strike gold again, this could rival their own Mighty Mighty for Jazz album of the year.
