1986 offering from Rose Royce, ‘Fresh Cut’ is an age away from their later 70s sound with a more incisive 80s production feel that manages to stay on the right side of overworked. The better cuts are the quiet storm tracks, namely ‘Lonely Road’, ‘I Know I’m In The Mood’ and ‘You’re My Peace Of Mind’ that really ramp up the romance! ‘Doesn’t Have To Be This Way’ is a bright, uptempo opener while ‘Magic Doll’ offers up a finger clicker of a groove. Big mid 80s production but without the harshness that a lot of act were producing at the time.
