Twenty-years after we first heard from Calvin Richardson via his ‘Country Boy’ set, his eighth studio album yet again delivers the trademark southern R&B sound that has delighted fans for over two decades. The lilting opener ‘If You’re Thinking About Leaving’ is a throwback swayer that delivers both musically and vocally with Richardson’s tones reminiscent of Lee Fields, the light, skipping groove of ‘Do You Wrong’ sounds like it’s from another era while the unashamedly Al Green vibe of ‘Still In Love’ is a triumph. The slowies ‘She Never Had A Real Man Like This’ and ‘Beautiful Woman’ pack a real emotional punch while the luscious ‘Ain’t Nothin’ Like The One I Got’ is also a standout but in truth you’d be pushed to find a bad track on this consistently strong set.
