David Porter is best known as the song writing partner of Isaac Hayes between them created whose classic songs so Sam and Dave, Soul Children and more. David’s solo debut ‘Gritty Groovy and Getting it; released in 1970 on Enterprise, includes the excellent moody ballad ‘Can’t See You How I want to’on which Isaac’s production is very evident. There are good uptempo versions of Stevie’s ‘I Don’t Know Why I Love You’, Jerry Butler’s ‘I’m telling you’ and temptations ‘The Way You Do The Things You Do’. Also check the Curtis string laden ballad ‘Just Be True’. Under rated album.
