Debut album from Australian group The Teskey Brothers, this soul drenched bluesy album is full of deep southern numbers that have a real authentic feel, bringing to mind the work of Stax and Hi Records. It’s no accident that the cover brings to mind Neil Young’s ‘Harvest’ album – the blue eyed, country-soul of tracks like ‘Crying Shame’ and ‘Shiny Moon’ show the guys acknowledge a more diverse set of influences while the stunning ‘Pain And Misery’ can’t help but bring to mind ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’. The upbeat ‘I Get Up’ allows Josh Teskeys gravelly tones to excel, the work song ‘Til The Sky Turns Black’ is an oily, gritty R&B number while ‘Hard Feeling’ is an expansive, spacious blues number. The slow burner ‘Honeymoon’ closes out this fine set with more bluesoul tones. Impeccable musicianship, memorable tunes and superb lead vocals. These guys are the real deal.
