Blue eyed British Rhythm and Soul singer/songwriter James Hunter (and his band) have been making critically acclaimed albums for over twenty years and this, their first long player in three years sees them move to Daptone Records to produce a fantastic set that will delight and grow his fanbase. The solid early 60s feel is still there with maybe a sprinkling more soul thrown in thanks to the production touches of Bosco Mann. Full on soul-rockers like ‘If That Don’t Tell You’ jostle with the bolero feel of ‘(Baby) Hold On’, the tender Sam Cooke vibe of ‘Something’s Calling’, the pure finger clicking 60s soul innocence of ‘A Truer Heart’ a delightful dancer that again brings to mind the effortless delivery of ‘The King Of Soul’ and the stomping ‘Stranded’ that just transports you back to 1964 even if you’ve never been there! If you don’t know his work, give James Hunter and his Six your attention: rich rewards await!
