Released in 1975, Ohio Players third album for Mercury followed on the success of ‘Fire’ and ‘Skin Tight’. The Players as they were known by fans combined ultra tight Funk grooves with wacky vocals (like Parliament/ Bootsy would later use) with one of tightest horn sections ever. ‘Honey’ spawned two great Funk singles in ‘Fopp’ and ‘Love Rollercoaster’. ‘Sweet Sticky Thing’ hits a jazzy mid-tempo groove with fine guitar and sax solos. ‘Contradiciton’ is less strong but still has moments of superb Funk like the infectious ‘Who’d She Coo’ and the heavy ‘Far East Mississippi’. Also the unknown intricate ‘Precious Love’. Skin Tight is the strongest set the Ohio Players have ever released and one of our all-time classic Funk albums.
