Idris Muhammad released this album for Kudu Records in 1976.  The album opens with the title cut ‘House Of The Rising Sun’, which is given a pleasant Disco Jazz Funk version with fine solos from Dave Sanborn (alto sax) and Eric Gale (guitar).  There is a funky take on Ashford and Simpson’s ‘Hard To Face The Music’ with a solo from Michael Brecker and a great trombone one from Fred Wesley.   The album’s standout is the Middle Eastern flavoured ‘Sudan’ – a fast 11-minute Jazz workout with pianist Roland Hanna in fine form.  The album closes with a gritty version of the Meters’ ‘Hey Pocky A-Way’ featuring Wesley once more.  ‘House Of The Rising Sun’ is very good Jazz Funk circa 1976 and typical of the Kudu sound from that time.
