Light Of The World/ Beggar & Co trumpet star, stalwart of the British Soul and Jazz scene and all-round good guy, Kenny Wellington returns with ‘In Retrospect’, his second solo album. The reworking of ‘Bahia’ is a joyful start and ‘Let’s Get Dizzy’ is a funky workout. ‘Free Your Mind’ has Donald Byrd/ Mizell Brothers vibe, whilst ‘Chill’ has a jazzier undercurrent driven by a wicked bassline. ‘Wait Until Tomorrow’ has a fantastic groove with Wellington’s mute trumpet adding atmospherics and ‘Free And easy’ lives up to title with its fresh vibe. ‘In Retrospect’, whilst being an apt title, does the music scant justice as the music within sounds very contemporary too.
