Former Headhunters drummer Mike Clark assembles a stellar cast of players including Christian McBride on Bass, Donald Harrison Jr – Alto Saxophone, Rob Dixon – Tenor Saxophone, Randy Brecker – Trumpet and Antonio Ferao – Piano for this live recording made over an autumn weekend in New York in 2018. Produced by Lenny White, the results are stunning: the scintillating ‘Of Infinity’ is on fire from the off, Brecker and Harrison share the spoils on the highly charged ‘Black Inside’ while Monk’s ‘Straight Not Chaser’ and ‘Well You Needn’t’ are given an exemplary workout. The galloping ‘Past Lives’ has a reflective quality while ‘Sweet’ allows the band to cool everything down on a mellow mood moment, with Clark’s brushwork totally on point. Don’t miss the upbeat ‘Lucky No. 7’ with it’s snappy groove that also sees McBride and Clark on big solos that cook. Incredible stuff with that classic live jazz recording vibe too.
