Luis Perez is a cross-culture, multi-instrumentalist specialising in pre-Columbian musical heritage from Mexico. This debut 1981 album totals only four tracks but two of them are 15+ and 20+ minute epics that encompass an array of styles, tempos and moods. The Mexican government sponsored the production of the album: a fusion of native mexican instruments with electronics. “Ipan In Xiktli Metztli” is a lengthy soundcape that blends ambient electronica with experimental grooves and traditional Central American sounds, the almost unpronouncable ‘Xochyaoyoloh’ is more percussion based while the haunting ‘Ketzolkoati’ is another aural excursion through the sonic landscape. Definitely music that will challenge the listener!
