French Trumpeter Stephane Ronget is the driving force behind the Rongetz Foundation. On their new album ‘Kiss Kiss Double Jab’ he is joined by Gary Bartz on Sax and Steve Turre on Trombone and other NY musicians. The vocalist is Broadway singer Lilli Cooper who is a real discovery who really excels on the great swinging vocal version of Charles Earland’s Dancefloor Jazz ‘Murilley’. ‘Hip hop Muse’ has some nice spoken word vocals from Sonia Sanchez and a good bone solo from Turre. ‘Cab Samba’ has a really good Brazilian vibe and really shifts along. ‘Such a Morning Person’ is a nice mid tempo song. ‘Knocked Down’ has a lilting groove that picks up pace during the instrumental passages. Good album that takes a couple of plays to fully appreciate.
