24 track investigation of a slice of the Kent-Modern output with plenty of previously unreleased tracks featuring for the first time. Difosco’s tough ‘You Saved Me From Destruction’ is a swirling, psychedelic-tinged funker, Johnny Copeland’s ‘I Was Born To Love Is’ is a great mid paced northern dancer, The Intensions’ ‘My Love She’s Gone’ is a faultless slab of brassy northern with great harmonies while ‘All That Shines Is Not Gold’ by The Windjammers is a wonderful bit of crossover soul. The Pace-Setter’s socio-political ‘Push On Jesse Jackson is presented in its full 5 minute version, The Other Brothers’ ‘It’s Been A Long Time Baby’ is a solid northern dancer while Ruth Davis’ tough funky dancer ‘I Need Money’ is a perennial favourite. Wally Cox’s fabulous ‘I Need A Love’ is another that was never originally waxed – well worth the wait! (JS)
