Twenty-five track second volume of this series looking into the vast output of the Los Angeles imprint’s eclectic output, Rudy Love & the Love Family’s trippy, cavernous ‘Hungry Children’ brings to mind folky west coast soul, Felice Taylor’s sweet vocals grace the playful ‘Honey’, Stacy Jonh’s perky northern soul ‘Don’t Believe him’ is backed by a gospel call and response backing while The Other Brothers’ punchy, funky edged soul ‘Nobody But Me’ is an indemander. Earl Fosters blues funker ‘Jodine’, Charles Taylor’s big city soul ‘What Is This World Coming To’, The Four Tees ‘Funky Duck’ and Arthur K. Adams’, big, pleading ‘I Need You’ is immense. Johnny Copeland’s smouldering, moody, bluesy ‘Ghetto Child’ contrasts with Chuck Walker’s tender ballad ‘Peace Of Mind’ that closes out this strong selection.
