Father and sons Quartet Sha La Das hail from Staten Island and are no stranger to the Daptone/Durham Records set up with several members featuring on Charles Bradley releases. This, their debut album, sees the street corner harmony act in full flourish on this meeting of Doo-Wop and Soul. The whole atmosphere of the album is drenched in that early 60s vein with emotion wrung from each track. The tempos are mixed, from the crushing slow balladry of ‘Open My Eyes’ and ‘Just For A Minute’ to the brisker pace of ‘Summer Breeze’. ‘Do What’ is a good dancer, the blue eyed northern soul of ‘Carnival’ is a highlight as is the beat ballad ‘It’s You’.
