1973 album recorded at Willie Mitchell’s Royal Studio with muscians from the Hi Rhythm Section and produced by the man himself, there is an Al Green feel to the album here but with a rougher edge on the vocals and a deeper southern vibe in the music. Fans of Southern Soul will find a lot to like here – the best tracks on a consistently good album are the dark edged ‘Nothing Comes To A Sleeper’, the funky ‘I’ve Been Searching’, the bright, open sounding ‘You Must Believe In Yourself’, the pleading ballad ‘Please Forgive Me’, the chugging funk laced ‘Are You Going Where I’m Coming From’ as well as the deeper ‘Ghetto Child’ and ‘Memory Blues’. The gospel-soul ender ‘I’m Going Home (To Live With God)’ is an infectious foot tapper. Strong album.
