1974 was a fruitful time for Brooklyn’s Persuasions – they released both ‘More Than Before’ and ‘I Just want To Sing With My Friends’ in the same year! The group excels when they harmonise and as a group they were faultless. The first half of ‘More Than Before’ features the group in raw, live street corner harmony style but it’s the thumping, haunting ‘One Thing On My Mind’ and the pulsating gospel funk feel of ‘We’re All Going Home’ that standout. ‘I Just Want To Sing…’ again features those group harmonies again albeit with more instrumentation and there is a smattering of gospel influenced lyrical numbers but the slick, funky edged ‘Island’ again stands out.
