Great 25 track focus on the Northern Soul sound of Motown this is a well rounded blend of familiar and lesser heard sounds, all with that unmistakable Motown touch. The Isley Brothers’ frantic ‘Sure Is A Lotta Woman’ was originally pulled as a single at the time but is a highlight here. The Four Tops ‘Sweet Was The Love’ is excellent, slightly on the dark side while Marvin Gaye’s ‘It’s A Bitter Pill To Swallow’ is another moody, percussive powerhouse dancer. So many highlights on a very strong collection, The Monitors’ excellent ‘Crying In The Night’, The Temptations sneaking mid-tempo gem ‘Witchcraft (For Your Love)’, Frances Nero’s ‘Keep On Lovin’ Me’, Tommy Good’s ‘Baby I Miss You’ as well as classics from Barbara McNair (You’re Gonna Love My Baby’) and Diana Ross (‘Stormy’) are also standouts on a really good comp. Essential for Northern soul, Motown and 60s soul fans alike!
