Saxophonist Dave McMurray has a strong reputation for fine funky Smooth Jazz/ Fusion albums. ‘Music Is Life’ is a jazzier direction for his Blue Note debut. There is more than a nod towards Coltrane in his playing especially on ‘Naked Walk’. Check too ‘seven Nation Army’ with its jazzy b line and catchy melody. George Clinton’s ‘Atomic Dog’ is given a Jazz Funk take. There are more hints of ‘Trane’ on ‘Time #5’. McMurray mellows out on the lovely ‘Paris Rain’. ‘Bop City D’ is another fine groove on an album that is full of them.
