‘Music of Many Colours’ was recorded after a three week tour of Nigeria’s major cities in 1979, during which Roy Ayers performed as the opening act for Fela’s band. The two legends decided to record the album as a round-up to the tour. As is the case with most Fela albums, there are just two tracks, one each side of the record, with the hope-filled ‘2000 Blacks Got To Be Free’ having a definite leaning to Roy’s ‘Running Away’ is the bassline. There’s more of a disco feel to the track as it surges along on a 4/4 beat while Ayers’ own ‘African Centre Of The World’ is given a Nigerian makeover to brilliant effect.
