Pianist, composer and band leader Reggie Andrews was a one-time member of Karma, The Chocolate Jam Co, and Willie Bobo & The Bo Gents, but in 1969 he gathered a talented group of musicians under the moniker of The Fellowship and laid down this now legendary album that is virtually impossible to find on its original issue and commands astronomical four-figure sums. The blend of gentle Afro-Cuban vibes as in the easy, laid back title track to the punchier, Latin jazz of ‘Song For J’ demonstrates the scope across the nine cuts here. Apart from the sultry, close quarters version of ‘The Look Of Love’, all cuts were penned by Andrews: Mike Crawford’s accomplished trumpet solo lifts the delicate rumba of ‘Sir Lady’ while the bossa of ‘Sweet Stuff’ is aimed at the dancefloor. ‘Ah Na Na’ is another bustling Latin Jazz number, and the darker, more mysterious sounding ‘Chant’ mines an R&B vibe while still rooting itself firmly in that Afro-Cuban groove. The thumping, funky ‘Everyman’s Brother’ closes out this exceptional album in style. Welcome reissue, beautifully packed and complete with obi-strip, but grab this while you can as it will vanish!
