Brian Jackson worked for ten years alongside Gil Scott Heron in the 70s writing and performing some of the best social conscious Soul music of its era. Those songs have stood the test if time and are still very relevant today. Brian has now re-recorded 19 tracks featuring some great musicians and guest singers, keeping the spirit of the songs but updating the grooves to sound more contemporary on ‘Now More Than Ever’. ‘The Bottle’ ft Omar on vocals highlights what a masterpiece this song is, Brian adding a lovely flute solo to this excellent version. ‘Its Your World’ is produced by The Masters At Work ft Raheem DeVaughn and J. Ivy on vocals, taken a little slower than the original but outstanding. Raheem also fronts ‘Peace Go With You Brother’ and ‘Madison Avenue’. Rahsaan Patterson scats on a really swinging version of ‘Is That Jazz’ and also ‘Lady Day and John Coltrane’. Lisa Fisher adds her soulful vocals to ‘Home Is Where The Hatred Is’, Carl Cornwell plays sax on the excellent instrumental ‘Moonshine Live’ that really grooves along. With production from Maw, Josh Milan , Moodymann and vocals from Rich Medina on ‘Winter In America’ the album has a very contemporary feel, yet timeless and classic. One of the albums of the year.
