Excellent selection of 60’s Scandinavia based Hard Bop and modal Jazz that combines the tightness of the Jazz of its day with a European freer sound. Highlight is Dexter Gordon and Slide Hampton Sextet’s ‘A Day In Vienna’, though the swinging ‘Buddah’ from the Jazz Quintets runs its close. Brew Moore’s ‘Piger’ is a fine sax led groover, whilst Erik Andersen Quartet’s ‘Cordon Bleu’ has a Blue Note feel. Interesting and full of strong grooves.
