Soul Basement are Italian multi-instrumentalist and producer Fabio Puglisi on keys, bass and drums and Texan soul singer Jay Nemor on vocals and sax. ‘Oneness’ is their second album following 2016’s ‘What We Leave behind’ and it’s full of sophistication and style. Neymor’s silky voice has similarities to Gil Scott-Heron but he has his own identity that comes across well particularly in the semi-spoken word ‘S.O.U.L’ and the jazzy ‘Who Really Knows’ as well as the more uptempo cuts like ‘Love To The People’ and ‘Better Days’. Standout track of the album is the stop start groove of ‘To Be Truly Free’ biut don’t miss the sublime slowie, aptly titled ‘Slowly’.
