‘Part Time Love’ was Ann Peeble’s debut album for Hi! Records and dates from 1971 and was a hit on the R&B album charts reaching number 40. Peeble’s powerful, full bodied voice has a huskiness that at times has similarities to Tina Turner with a southern swagger. ‘Make Me Yours’ is a finger clicking version of the Bettye Swann tune from ’67, the funky soul of ‘Solid Foundation’ has a good dance groove while the classic ‘Chain Of Fools’ and the title track and Johnnie Taylor cover ‘Part Time Love’ are solid highlights. The gentle ballad ‘I Still Love You’ is a slow burner, while her take on ‘It’s Your Thing’ adds it’s own voice to the many covers of the classic JB track.
