Somi follows up her superb ‘Lagos Music Saloon’ from 2014 with another beautiful album ‘Petite Afrique’. The title refers to an area of Harlem home to New York’s African community. ‘Black Enough’ is a lovely swaying but melodic semi-funky groover backed by really tight horns. ‘Wild One’ is a very percussive track. ‘The Gentry’ another horn backed cut considers the affect of gentrification of urban areas and features Aloe Black. The instrumentation is great throughout but Somi’s songwriting and sweet voice are the real highlights of this refreshingly different and hypnotic album.
