The fourth excursion into this series focussing on obscure soulful jazz and funk from the 70s picks up where the previous volume left off and brings more delights to discover. Michael Dues’ ‘Goodbye Rainbow’ excels, Morris Dow’s ‘Black Child’ is a busy, jazzy soul odyssey, Carmelita’s South American groove of ‘Under The Trees’ is a highlight while Tim Agenend’s genre crossing ‘Fun City’ has a deep hip hop type beat. The Three Souls’ ‘Herby’s Tune’ is a tough bop number while Joe Isaac Henderson delivers the insistent groove of ‘Out Side Loving’. Lots of left field numbers sprinkled here too for the more adventurous.
