Marcell Russell will need no introduction to Soul fans he has made three superb independent Soul albums and possesses a truly great Soulful voice. He teams up with Teddy Douglas and the Basement Boys for an album of Retro Soul and Soulful house grooves. ‘Only a fool’, ‘Till my baby comes home’ and ‘Forever’ (ft Maysa) are up tempo Soulful house dancers lifted by that deep Soul voice. However it is the Soul tracks that Marcell really shines on, ‘Wonderful’. ‘Clap My hands’ and ‘Land of Love’ are good upper mid tempo soul cuts. Thr highlight though is the lovely mid tempo ‘Good Morning Love’ featuring a spoken word segment featuring The Floacist which is truly beautiful and uplifting. Really good varied set.
