Louis Hayes, 80 this month, featured on four Horace Silver albums in the fifties. This tribute features 11 of Silver’s tunes. Hard Bop stompers like ‘Ecorah’, ‘St Vitus Dance’, ‘Senor Blues’ and ‘Juicy Lucy’ are typical pieces of the pianist and capture his joie de vie and infectious music style. Probably, ‘A Song For My Father’ is his most famous composition to which Leon Thomas wrote lyrics; on ‘Serenade For Horace’ these are interpreted by the wonderful Gregory Porter, superb.
