Black heavy vinyl. We have compiled together on this LP the very best broadcast recordings the Hollies made that have never previously been issued. From 1966, I Can’t Let Go features an unusual six-string bass guitar solo by Eric Haydock, followed by a spirited rendition of one of Clarke, Nash and Hicks’s earliest compositions Set Me Free and an early version of Don’t Even Think About Changin’, a song that later appeared on the For Certain Because album. Rockin’ Robin and Just One Look are from the NME Pollwinners concert of 1964 at the Empire Pool, Wembley in London. The acts which appeared together in this incredible line up were The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Merseybeats, The Searchers, Gerry & the Pacemakers, Billy J. Kramer & the Dakotas, Brian Poole & the Tremeloes, Cliff Richard, The Shadows, The Dave Clark Five, The Swinging Blue Jeans, Kathy Kirby, Freddie & the Dreamers and The Hollies. We apologise for the poor quality of the 1963 recordings that were taped by an enthusiastic fan who placed a microphone in front of the radio speaker! Shake is from a live concert recording and the two Chuck Berry songs Roll Over Beethoven and Reelin’ And Rockin’ have never been released before in any form by the Hollies. I think you’ll agree that these energetic, high-speed performances alone make this LP deserve its place in any self-respecting Hollies fan’s collection. side one : 1.
