Alto saxophonist Darren Rahn has carved out a reputation for good solid Smooth Jazz. ‘Sonic Boom’ can only enhance that reputation. ‘D-Luxe’ is a relaxed and smooth, whilst Rick Braun guests on the more groove orientated ‘Funk Avenue’. Trombonist Robin Eubanks joins on the funkier ‘Altered Ego’, whilst vocalist Rico Wint adds a touch of 80’s style Soul to ‘Together..Forever’. There is a decent cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Rock With You’. Other guests include Jonathan Fritzen and Julian Vaughn.
