Guitarist Bobby Broom’s ‘Soul Fingers’ is a jazzy set recorded with his trio featuring drums and organ. It comprises 9 covers of Soul/ Jazz/ Pop tunes plus one original. It is the Soul covers that work best as the Isley’ Summer Breeze and the Temps ‘Get Ready’ illustrate. The Beatles’ ‘Come Together’ and Steely Dan’s ‘Do It Again’ are fine re-workings. Michael Jackson’s ‘I Can’t Help It’ is another fine laid-back performance. Anyone who enjoys Benson’s or Norman Brown’s playing should enjoy although the backing is quite different. Nice listening set.
